Dermatology in General

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the hair, nails, skin and its diseases. It is a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist treats diseases, in the widest sense, and some cosmetic problems of the skin, scalp, hair and nails.

Dermatologists have been leaders in the field of cosmetic surgery. Some dermatologists complete fellowships in surgical dermatology. Many are trained in their residency on the use of botox fillers and laser surgery. Some dermatologists perform cosmetic procedures including liposuction, blepharoplasty and face lifts. Most dermatologists limit their cosmetic practice to minimally invasive procedures. Despite the absence of formal guidelines from the American Board of Dermatology, many cosmetic fellowships are offered in both surgery and laser medicine.

A dermatolopathologist is a pathologist or dermatologist who specializes in the pathology of the skin. This field is shared by dermatologists and pathologists. Usually a dermatologist or pathologist will complete one year of dermatopathology fellowship. This usually includes six months of general pathology and six months of dermatopathology. Alumni of both specialties can qualify as dermatopathologists. At the completion of a standard residency in dermatology, many dermatologists are also competent at dermatopathology. Some dermatopathologists qualify to sit for their examinations by completing a residency in dermatology and one in pathology.

Considered to be an alternative to cosmetic surgery or the insertion of implants under the skin, the use of products containing hyaluronic acid filler as a major ingredient has become popular among both men and women. Most examples of hyaluronic acid filler are injected into the skin in outpatient treatments, making the process relatively simple and inexpensive when compared to other methods of creating a more youthful appearance.

Laser *body & face rejuvenation*

Τhe name L.A.S.E.R. comes from the acronym "Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation", meaning the increased light by stimulated emission of light radiation.

The aesthetic improvement of a face using the laser is aimed at:

  • Treatment of facial wrinkles, smoothing deep wrinkles and eliminating the shallowest.
  • Renew and strengthen the skin.
  • Elimination or improvement of acne scars and traumatic scars, depending on the depth of the lesion.
  • Dealing with stains and discolorations of the skin.
  • Dealing with varicose veins and hemangiomas.
  • A successful outcome requires the proper use of laser according to each problem.

Is the method that is implemented once and promises everything we demand in a full facial aesthetic improvement.

It may involves the entire face or specific areas of the face, where the problem lies. It provides solutions to aged person, wrinkles, scars in acne, blemishes, discoloration, in hyperkeratosis, injury scars, etc.

For this treatment we use high-power laser. These therapies are implemented in a period where there is intense sunlight, usually from mid-November to mid March. The application of laser treatment is performed under local anesthesia.

By finishing the treatment, the face or some areas where the application sites, bright red appears. That's why we place a special silicone membrane or special dressings on the skin for the first few days which aims at reducing the serous exudate, protect the person from outside and help regenerate the skin.

This protection (gauze or membrane) is removed from the face at the fifth day and care with creams and reconstructive moisturizing creams is followed, and a high sun protection. Usually the first 6-7 days of treatment one should avoid leaving the house. Then it is allowed to come back to normal rhythms of life, but should always make sure that we have in mind the instructions of the physician. The first time the color of our face is pink and gradually day by day restores to normal.

    Soft resurfacing

It is the preferred method nowadays because it avoids the possibility of stains occur as a complication and because recuperation time is minimal (3-4 days). It is performed without local anesthesia and lasts more than one sessions with a break from 1 to 1.5 μήνα between each session.

It treats wrinkles, acne scars, discoloration, hyperkeratosis superficial injuries and other malformations. It is applied either locally or as a full face treatment, with satisfactory results without leaving marks, so that we can continue our lifestyles without interruptions and having a clean, refreshed face. After each treatment we place in face reconstructive moisturizing creams and sunscreen follow according to the instructions of a physician.

    Non ablative treatment

It is a recent therapeutic method with laser, which faces the aged facial skin and wrinkles in it, and acne scars without affecting the skin, without leaving the slightest trace. Targeting the aged or problematic collagen, causing thermolysis and activates fibroblasts to produce elastin, gradually eliminates wrinkles or skin damage from acne.

It usually takes 3-4 sessions at intervals of 1 to 1.5 month. The method is rapid with over 10-20 min depending on the size of the problem and causes no irritation except from a slight redness that lasts a few hours. The patient returns to work or home immediately after treatment.
